It’s an era of digital disruption; new electronics & communication technologies with intelligent sensors, advanced data processing techniques, analytical tools coupled with cognitive technologies and growing computing power has made us believe that the future is exciting. The world of manufacturing promises to take a big leap, leveraging the technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, known as Industry 4.0 or Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The three pillars of Industry 4.0: “Digitization”, “Sensorization” and “Optimization” promises a digital manufacturing ecosystem through analytics, to achieve the ultimate objective of reducing cost and improving quality & safety. With the cost of connectivity dropping dramatically, the technology provides powerful potential to connect people, assets and information across the industrial enterprise.
In view of the growing steel demand projection in coming years, steel industries are planning massive modernization and expansion programs. The large capacity expansion will involve introduction of ingenious and futuristic automation and IT technologies. Industry 4.0 is expected to play a distinctive role in corporate roadmap for smart manufacturing and project management.
Exchange of experiences and deliberations on challenges among the stake holders is essential to effectively leverage innovative technologies to usher in a new era of digital manufacturing.
